We have yet to replace the back door. However, the hubby managed to get it working again, until we can settle on one we both like–and one that won’t get destroyed by the dogs. In the meantime, I made some minor improvements in the area so that it can function as it should.
The original door had brass hardware, but we replaced it last year with an aged bronze handle and lock set. The first photo (above left) was taken from the basement stairs so that you can see the light fixture…
…but, here’s a closeup. Since we changed the door hardware to aged bronze, we decided to replace the old light fixture with one that would coordinate. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of the brassh finish.
I had D install a new light fixture that we bought at Lowe’s for $35.98. It’s actually an outdoor light fixture, but since we had it laying on standby for the front porch, I decided to use it for now.
I also installed some wall hooks that I had from an old shelf that we weren’t using. You can find similar ones at Target, Walmart, etc. but if you’re looking for something specific, check out House of Antique Hardware or visit Anthropologie for several unique options.
So, with a new light fixture and some handy hooks, the space is already looking better. I am now looking for a shoe storage solution, which is proving difficult considering this area is a narrow space. I think Ikea has some good options, as does Target. FYI- the wall color is “Balanced Beige” by Sherwin Williams, just incase anyone was wondering.
